Pakuranga Plaza, on Aylesbury Street, first opened in 1965 as Pakuranga Town Centre, making it one of New Zealand’s oldest shopping malls and a long standing anchor for family shopping in the suburb.
What Pakuranga Plaza offers local families
Developed by the Fletcher Construction Company alongside Ti Rakau Drive, Pakuranga Plaza was New Zealand’s second modern American-style shopping mall, originally incorporating major department stores including Farmers and George Court. The mall was later acquired by the Westfield Group before being sold in December 2012 to Ladstone Holdings and renamed Pakuranga Plaza, then resold in October 2014 to current owner GYP Properties. Today it houses more than 80 stores and services, anchored by Woolworths and Panda Mart.
The Warehouse, a fixture of the mall for 32 years, closed its Pakuranga Plaza store in 2025, one of several changes the mall has weathered over six decades while remaining a real local hub. A 2008 rating of New Zealand shopping centres gave Pakuranga Plaza a relatively high score for its shopping area, economic performance and future growth prospects, despite ongoing competition from Botany Town Centre and Sylvia Park.
Visiting Pakuranga Plaza
The mall is open Monday to Wednesday and Saturday from 9am to 6pm, Thursday and Friday from 9am to 7pm, and Sunday from 10am to 5pm. A mobility scooter and wheelchair are available for free hire with photo identification, and an AED is available from customer services in an emergency. Free WiFi and ample free parking are available on site, with the Southeastern arterial motorway exit directly across from the mall.
A busway station is planned to be built at Pakuranga Plaza itself, as an intermediate stop on the Eastern Busway connecting Botany Town Centre and Panmure railway station.

For families with young children, the mall’s own single site with more than 80 stores makes it a practical wet weather destination, combining grocery shopping with a wider mix of everyday retail without needing to travel between separate locations.
