St Peter’s Anglican Preschool, on Yaldhurst Road, is the newest preschool at Church Corner, giving Upper Riccarton families a Christian, bilingual early learning option with a strong focus on preparing children for school.
What St Peter’s Anglican Preschool offers local families
The preschool opened in August 2019, operating in partnership with St Peter’s Anglican Church, with governance provided by the Manukau Christian Charitable Trust. Licensed for 44 children, including up to 8 under the age of two, the centre maintains a higher staff to child ratio than required, with two age-based areas catering to a properly multicultural community reflecting Upper Riccarton’s own diverse population. Kaiako promote positive, respectful interactions between toddlers and older children, and different cultures are actively respected and supported, with children’s home languages spoken and cultural events celebrated throughout the year.
The centre describes its own mission as empowering children as learners, teaching foundational skills that set children up for success both during their time at the preschool and beyond. School Readiness Programmes are specifically available for children aged four and above, giving families confidence their child is well prepared for the transition into formal schooling.
Enrolling at St Peter’s Anglican Preschool
The preschool operates Monday to Friday from 8am to 5:30pm, offering both all day and part day sessions for children under two and over two. Standard 20 Hours ECE funding applies for children aged three and over. Families interested in enrolling are encouraged to contact the centre directly, with vehicle entrance via 22 Main South Road.
For more on childcare options across Upper Riccarton, see our Childcare, Maternity & Early Education page, and our Upper Riccarton suburb page for the fuller local picture. You can also visit the St Peter’s Anglican Preschool website directly for current enrolment details.
Families from a wide range of cultural backgrounds may find the centre’s own emphasis on speaking home languages and celebrating cultural events especially reassuring, helping a child maintain their own cultural identity alongside settling into a new early learning environment.
Given the centre’s own newer status compared with some longer established Upper Riccarton preschools, families are encouraged to visit in person to see the facilities and meet staff before enrolling.
