Riccarton Park Function Centre

Riccarton Park Function Centre, on Racecourse Road, gives Sockburn families a significant, historic events venue combining beautiful park-like surrounds with flexible indoor spaces, built in 1903 as part of the Riccarton Park Racecourse.

What Riccarton Park Function Centre offers local families

The venue’s facilities can cater from 20 to 600 people across a range of named rooms, including the premium Tea House, suitable for seated dining from 60 to 100 and cocktail functions up to 150, alongside the Phar Lap and Gloaming Rooms, the Balmerino and Night March Rooms, and the Show Gate, with its old world charm suited to social functions for up to 300 seated or 400 at a cocktail party. The modern Club Grandstand features 17 rooms over three levels with WiFi throughout and views across the expansive grounds, while parking for more than 1,000 vehicles makes the venue practical for even the largest family celebrations.

Whether planning an elegant wedding, a milestone birthday, a school formal, a christening or a family reunion, Riccarton Park offers a properly flexible range of spaces to suit different styles and group sizes, from an intimate gathering through to a major public event. Venue hire includes room set-up, assistance with seating plans, professional service staff, crockery and glassware, linen and serviettes, and use of the grounds and gardens.

Booking Riccarton Park Function Centre

Families interested in booking are encouraged to contact Sales and Event Coordinator Camille Broughton directly to discuss current availability, room options and pricing, which varies by room and starts from around $300.

For more on parties and entertainment options across Sockburn, see our Photography, Parties & Entertainment page, and our Sockburn suburb page for the fuller local picture. You can also visit the Riccarton Park Events website directly to request a quote.

Families planning a milestone celebration like a 21st, a wedding or a significant anniversary often choose Riccarton Park specifically for its combination of historic character and properly large-scale capacity, since few other Christchurch venues can seat several hundred guests while still offering smaller, more intimate rooms for a modest gathering.

Given the venue’s own popularity for weddings and school formals, families are encouraged to book well ahead for weekend dates, especially during the traditional spring and summer wedding season.
